Both Amy & I always knew the hotel industry was going to be our future.
We met while studying at The Blue Mountains Hotel Management School, NSW, Australia. Ten years on and we have certainly covered many facets in the Hotel Industry with so many opportunities ahead.
Our hotel careers have taken us too many facinating places and the experiences working for luxury hotels in often remote and emerging markets has definitely been an eye opener.
Aman Resorts was the Hotel Group that truly opened my eyes to the top end luxury hotel market. During my time with the Group I worked in Bali & Java, Indonesia, India, Singapore and Cambodia opening 2 new hotels for them in Rajasthan and Cambodia. I then moved back to Australia and was Operations Manager for the opening of Elysia, Golden Door Health Retreat, Hunter Valley. Amy worked in Europe & Australia for the Millennium Group and Hyatt Hotels and more recently in Property & Finance.
We were fortunate enough to be recruited for the position of General Managers for The Islington Hotel in Hobart, Tasmania. At that stage it was just a building site, converting a 150 year old house into an 11 bedroom luxury hotel. The Owners who live Overseas had a wonderful collection of art & antiques, fabulous taste and wonderful ideas, but no hotel experience. They needed managers who were very hands on, dynamic and willing to take a chance in a market that hasn’t until now had a property with should class & exclusivity. It was the opportunity to set the benchmark for luxury small hotels in Tasmania that really made us jump at the opportunity.
We both rose to this challenge, newly married, working as a close knit team and bringing our personal work experiences as well as ideals together to make Islington into something extraordinary. We are proud to say that all is going to plan and already we have been awarded with some very impressive accolades.
